ROMEO. Requires actor to play 16-18 years of age. A poet and romantic. Masculine. Requires extensive emotional range and superb verse skills. Requires stage combat skills.
LORD CAPULET. Male. 40 to 50. Strong, authoritarian. Also warm at times. Requires ability to play extremes.
LADY CAPULET. Female. 35 to 45. Glamorous. Sophisticated. A trophy wife. Not maternal. Requires emotional range and punch.
CAPULET NURSE. Female. Age 40-70. Mature Commedienne. Round. Motherly. Funny. Warm. Earthy. Wiley.
LORD MONTAGUE. Male. 40 to 50. Mature, dignified. A man with rod of iron up his back.
THE PRINCE. Male. 50-70. A big voice and stern manner. Not to be crossed. Not incapable of compassion but plays by The Book.
BENVOLIO. Male. Age 18 to 21. Needs to be the nicest, most loyal of Romeo's friends. Best friend material. Requires some stage combat skills.
TYBALT. Male. 18 to 25. Fiery. Hot-headed. Requires excellent stage combat skills.
MERCUTIO. Male. 21 to late 20s. Lightning quick mind. Darkness underneath the mask of camaraderie. Requires superb verse and stage combat skills.
