2013 Auditions for The Land of Smiles Chicago Folks Operetta is holding auditions for the first Chicago performance in over in 25 years of Franz Lehar's international operetta masterpiece The Land of Smiles. The show will be directed by the highly acclaimed veteran Chicago director Elizabeth Margolius (The Cousin from Nowhere 2012). Matthew Cataldi will conduct and Todd Rhoades will choreograph. Lehar's 1929 masterpiece will feature a cast of over 20 performers and a 20-piece orchestra.

The Land of Smiles will be presented in a new English translation by Artistic Director Gerald Frantzen and Chicago Folks Operetta dramaturge Hersh Glagov. All performers are paid. Chicago Folks Operetta is a 501(c)3 non-profit theater company and an equal opportunity employer. AGMA card holders must submit release forms to participate in our productions.

Auditions will be held at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 545 S. East Ave, Oak Park, IL.

Time Commitment:

Rehearsals begin second week in May and will be held in Oak Park, IL. (accessible to the blue and green lines) Up to 4 rehearsals a week. Performances June 28-July 14 at Stage 773 in Chicago, IL.

Material To Prepare:

Sing 2 songs or arias of contrasting styles from memory which show full range and acting ability. At least one selection must be in English. Operetta and opera arias are preferred, but musical theatre selections are accepted (especially if no English aria is available). An accompanist will be provided. The singer must also prepare a one minute memorized monologue. Must bring: 2 resumes, 8�10 headshot, and personal calendar to list any conflicts.
