See What I Wanna See by Michael John LaChiusa, directed by Lili-Anne Brown
February 14th - April 21st at Steppenwolf Garage

See What I Wanna See, a musical about lust, greed, murder, faith and redemption, was named by New York Magazine as one of the Best Musicals of 2005 and nominated for nine Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical. It is based on three short stories by the Japanese writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa.

Mahal by Danny Bernardo, directed by Erica Weiss
June - July

Mahal is a new play about how one Filipino American family redefines itself after loss and reclaims their culture. One of the first plays about a Filipino American family, Mahal centers on the Reyes family dealing with the loss of their matriarch. As new relationships blossom and family bonds are tested, a long forgotten secret from the homeland threatens to tear the family apart. Dealing with themes of cultural identity, assimilation, homophobia, interracial and inter-generational relationships, Mahal examines what it truly means to be an American family.

Bootycandy by Robert O'Hara, directed by Lili-Anne Brown
June - July

Robert O'Hara took home a 2010 Helen Hayes Award for Antebellum, and he's cooking up an even saucier dish now. A rainbow of fresh lessons in sex education speaks the truth about growing up gay and African American. With outrageous humor and real heart, Bootycandy tests how we talk about our bodies at home, in church, and on the corner.
