A Mess of Durang

A Mess of Durang

Royal George Theatre
1641 N. Halsted Chicago

Besides the man himself, no one knows the exact topic of Christopher Durang's first play, which he wrote as an ambitious second-grader at Our Lady of Peace Parochial School in 1958. That said, it was probably a comedy and an outrageous one at that (by second-grade standards, at least). For few playwrights have revolutionized stage comedy quite like Durang, winner of the Tony for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike and the Obie for Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You. Now ColorBox Theatre presents A Mess of Durang, a compilation of seven of Durang's most hilarious and absurd short works, served up in '70s variety show style, complete with sketches, songs and jokes.
